Coconut Oil Processing Lombok, Indonesia

The Process to making Coconut Oil

It took a little over an hour to do the whole process. Friends and family would drop by to offer an extra hand or to chat and drink a bit of fresh coconut juice.

Remove the shell from the coconut

Watching our friend open the shell was intimidating. He moved so fast I was worried he would cut his finger off. I am happy to say that he didn’t.

Grate coconut very fine & squeeze as much juice out as possible.

The most time consuming step of the process. Joking with friends and family make the task fun.

Heating the coconut juice till it separates and browns, then strain out the solid pieces.

They didn’t have electricity so they used a flash light. They told the heat has to be just right to cook it correctly. Nothing goes to waste, as you see in the photos below the solid pieces are still edible. I thought the solid pieces tasted like bacon!!!

Yummy...Yummy....Yummy
